Mirandinha lies in an ambulance after he was felled by a New England Tea Men's elbow to the face, in 1978.

Mirandinha hit the post so often that when we Tampa Bay area youth played soccer and someone hit the post we would yell "Mirandinha". Amazingly he played quite a few games, hitting the post once or twice a game (not exagerating, I wish there were statistics!) without being able to score, until the night he got his cheek broken while scoring! His shots almost always hit the post and bounced back into the face of the goal. Much theory was invested into this poor man's dilema. One announcer's theory was that being form Brazil where the posts were round instead of square, his extreme accuracy would have scored many goals. Most of his shots, the way they hit the post, would have gone in if they were round, I'm certain!
