Rowdies Memorabilia - 1978 Rowdies vs Strikers Exhibition Game Report

On March 4th, 1978, the Rowdies played a pre-season Exhibition Game against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, which the Rowdies lost 0-2. If you read the article, it wasn't a great road trip for the Rowdies.
Also, due to injuries to several key players, the Rowdies travelled with a depleted squad, and had to have two players loaned to them by the Strikers.
Can anyone remember who the two Strikers' players were? - If anyone can help me, please leave a message, Thanks.

Rowdies vs. Montreal Impact

Montreal Impact 0 vs. Rowdies 0
The Rowdies earned a well-deserved point Saturday afternoon as it played to a 0-0 draw against Montreal at Saputo Stadium.
"Hopefully the players will take some real confidence from this," said head coach Ricky Hill. "As far as momentum and belief for our team, for us to come here and really keep possession well and give them very few opportunities, was very heartening."
"I think because of the conditions and the wind, I implored the guys to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible," said Hill. "I am very pleased that the guys trusted each other and did an excellent job sharing the ball, but I was disappointed that we didn't create more cleaner opportunities up top."
The Rowdies had a strong first half, controlling possession and creating numerous opportunities. M Tsuyoshi Yoshitake had an early chance for the Rowdies, hitting the left post in the fifth minute.
JP Rodrigues kept the game scoreless in the 12th minute as he cleared the ball from in front of the net from the ground.
Daryl Sattler made several key saves throughout the game, including a stop on Montreal F Idriss Ech Chergui in the 37th minute on a shot from outside the area. Sattler and the Rowdies' defense posted its second shutout in three games thus far in 2011.
"The foundation of any good side is to have a solid defense," said Hill. "Defending is a team game and the entire team played a large part in keeping a clean sheet today. And offensively, we are still working to convert our opportunites more often and frequently."
Forwards Mike Ambersley and Warren Ukah both made their first starts of the 2011 season and created chances, including an opportunity by Ambersley in the 67th minute.

Lineups:
Rowdies Lineup: Sattler, Arango, Jarun, Rodrigues, Sanfilippo, McManus, Millien (Gyorio 90'), Yamada, Yoshitake, Ambersley, Ukah (King 78')
Montreal Lineup: Gaudette, Billy, Hatchi, Pizzolitto, Tsiskaridze, Di Lorenzo (LeGall 65'), Kreamalmeyer, Lowery (Ribeiro 75'), Testo, Ech Chergui (Mayard 75'), Gerba.

Rowdies vs. Puerto Rico Islanders

Rowdies 0 vs. Puerto Rico Islanders 2
The Rowdies dropped a 0-2 decision to the Puerto Rico Islanders in its second match of the season Sunday night at Al Lang Stadium.
Islanders midfielder Jonathan Fana scored both goals for Puerto Rico, finding the back of the net in the 35th and 79th minutes.
“It is still a work in progress,” said Rowdies head coach Ricky Hill. “We were a little impatient; I felt like we tried to force too much. Goals change games; they scored two and we did not manage to get any goals out of the opportunites we created.”
The Rowdies put pressure on Puerto Rico goalkeeper Ray Burse throughout the match with a season-high 23 shots, led by five each from F Aaron King and F Pascal Millien.
The match remained scoreless until the 35th minute when Fana scored on an assist from midfielder David Foley, giving the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
The Rowdies outshot Puerto Rico, 12-6, in the first 45 minutes and had several chances. Midfielder Takuya Yamada sent a header over the crossbar in the opening 10 minutes and defender Omar Jarun just missed on a header in the 27th minute.
“We had good opportunities that we didn’t finish,” said Rowdies' defender and captain Frankie Sanfilippo. “We are never going to give up. Every game we give 110 percent.”
The two teams battled it out in the second half and picked up the pace of the match. Fana gave Puerto Rico another goal in the 79th minute, with the assist going to Gregory Richardson.
Despite the deficit, the Rowdies continued to put pressure on Puerto Rico in the second half. King hit a low strike in the 64th minute, but Burse made an excellent save. Forward Warren Ukah fired a shot high in the 66th minute and Millien attempted a shot off a bicycle kick inside the box.
Lineups:
Rowdies Lineup: Sattler, Rodrigues, Jarun, Hayes, Sanfilippo (Captain), Yamada, Yoshitake, McManus (Gyorio 78’), Savage (Ukah 61’), Millien, King (Ambersley 71’)

Rowdies vs. Montreal Impact

Rowdies 1 vs. Montreal Impact 0
In front of an electric crowd, the Rowdies defeated the Montreal Impact 1-0 in its 2011 season opener on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg.
Midfielder Tayuka Yamada gave the Rowdies the win with a late goal in the 85th minute of the match, marking the club’s first victory against its NASL Canadian rival. Goalkeeper Daryl Sattler made eight saves for the shutout.
"I am very pleased for our fans, the players and our entire organization," said head coach Ricky Hill. "It is always nice to start out with a win."
The Rowdies started out strong with forward Aaron King getting a shot off in the third minute of the match. The Rowdies kept the Impact on their toes with short, controlled passes leading to several good opportunities on the net.
In the seventh minute midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake took an indirect free kick outside of the 18-yard box but was unable to put a point on the board for The Rowdies.
Forward Pascal Millien followed with a few more shots in the 24th and 32nd minutes. And Tony McManus took another shot in the 36th minute.
Both teams came out of the locker room with the same intent: to score quickly in the second half. The Rowdies’ opportunity came first with midfielder Keith Savage’s shot, sent high just 30 seconds after kickoff. And then Montreal answered right back with a shot saved by Sattler.
In the 50th minute Rowdies' captain Frankie Sanfilippo created a great run starting with a long clear from defense which ended in a shot that flew high of the net.
Montreal took a shot from a free kick near midfield in the 53rd minute. Three minutes later Millien was fouled inside of Montreal’s defensive half and awarded a free kick. Neither team managed a goal.
Sattler made six saves in the second half of the match as Montreal began applying more pressure, outshooting the Rowdies 8-5 in the final 45 minutes.
A golden opportunity presented itself in the 84th minute of the match when Montreal goalkeeper Bill Gaudette fouled forward Warren Ukah inside of the penalty box. Yoshitake’s penalty kick curved just left of the net and the match remained scoreless.
Yamada’s game-winning goal came seconds later in the 85th minute when he took a shot off outside of the 18-yard-box off a rebound.
"I think it shows the mentality of our team that they didn't get deflated after the penalty kick and still get going by keeping the pressure on them," said Hill. "It was a fantasic shot by Yama that won the game."

Rowdies Lineup: Sattler, Rodrigues, Jarun, Hayes, Sanfilippo (Captain), Yamada, Yoshitake (Gyorio 90+), McManus, Savage (Ukah 69’), Millien, King (Ambersley 69’)

Montreal Impact Lineup:
Gaudette, Pizzolitto (Captain), Camara, Tsiskaridze, Billy, Kreamalmeyer, Lowery (Ilcu 90’), Ribeiro (Le Gall 70’), Gatti, RMayard, Gerba

Scoring Summary:
Rowdies: Yamada - 85th minute
