David "Dave" Power was born March 5th, 1954 in Liverpool, England. He spent his high school years downunder in Australia. He started his soccer career with Everton's youth team. He played a year there before moving to Ireland's Waterford FC.
In 1975, Waterford toured America, and played a number of American Soccer League teams. The New York Apollo liked his style enough, to seek his services on loan. He played three seasons on loan with the Apollo, 1975 to 1977. In addititon to full seasons in Ireland. At the end of the 1977 season he decided to make America his home and joined the Apollo on a permanent basis. He played there through 1980 with Rodney Marsh as coach.
In 1981, he followed Rodney to Charlotte to play for the Carolina Lightnin'. In eight ASL seasons, Dave had played on two Championship teams 1978 with the Apollo, and 1981 with the Lightnin'. He made the All-Star team three different years, 1978, 1982 and 1983. He served the Apollo as captain in 1979 and 1980 and was the Lightnin' captain for all three years of the club's existance.
In 1983, he played in 26 games, racking up a total of 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists). He joined the Rowdies as a free agent in March, prior to the Rowdies tour of England. He would make 1 appearance as a substitute during the 1984 outdoor season against the Chicago Sting in a 2-3 loss, on June 3rd.
Spent the 1985-86 season in the AISA with the Columbus Capitals. He then rejoined the Rowdies as a guest player during the "Coca-Cola International Soccer Series" in 1986.
Remained with the Rowdies for the 1986-87 AISA season, appearing in 18 games, scoring 2 goals with 1 assist, he also served as the club's director of Campkickinthegrass, as well as Director of Player Personnel. He was very active in the Rowdies Community Relations projects, hosting numerous soccer camps and activities throughout the Tampa Bay area.
He would remain with the Rowdies until 1990.
Today, Dave resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.
