Frank Worthington 1981, 1985

Frank Stewart Worthington was born 23 November, 1948. Frank was born into a footballing family in Shelf near Halifax, Yorkshire. Both of his parents had played the game and his two older brothers, Dave and Bob, became professional footballers, both began their careers with Halifax Town.
Frank began his career as a forward for Huddersfield Town in 1966 before playing for Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City, Leeds United, Sunderland, Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion, Tranmere Rovers, Preston North End, Stockport County and Galway United. He played into his 40s making 757 English League appearances and scoring 234 goals.
In 1981, Frank joined the Rowdies on loan from Birmingham City, he made 26 appearances and scored 11 goals. But did make another Rowdies appearance in the 1985 game against the US World Cup Team.
Frank won eight caps for England in 1974, scoring two goals.
He had the reputation for enjoying the high life. Following his retirement from the game Frank turned to the after-dinner speaking circuit and also published his autobiography "One Hump Or Two". The front cover featured a smiling Frank contemplating putting lumps of sugar in his cup of tea with the book title also alluding to his interest in the ladies.

  1. Does anyone know if he went back to England? Does he make any guest appearances in the Tampa area? I loved watching him and the Rowdies play back in the day.

  2. Hi Jray, Yes he did return to England. He now lives in Huddersfield, Yorkshire.

  3. Dang...i wonder if he ever comes back to Florida for special Rowdie events? Is there a way to write to him there, such as a fan club or something? Thanks.
